At sur le chemin we share a passion for the classic chino – that pair of trousers that has survived time and become a wardrobe staple for both men and women. Or essentials, as we at sur le chemin like to call them.
Chinos of today are mostly known for being a casual pair of trousers made from cotton twill. However, the garment itself has a long history. Originating from China, the pants became known as “pantalones chinos” – Spanish for Chinese pants – during the Spanish-American war. In the late 1800s the British and American armies introduced the chinos as part of the uniform. This led to the short English nickname “chinos” that we all use today.
After World War II the chino gained popularity among civilians, especially prominent as part of the Ivy League look of the 1950s and 1960’s, to be immortalized by icons such as Paul Newman, Jean-Luc Godard and Steve McQueen.
The chino has always been a part of our essential program and is made of certified organic cotton, locally sourced by our manufacture in Turkey.
Celebrating this true wardrobe staple, sur le chemin now introduces ”The chino club” and we are happy to invite you to be part of it.
